Our 2010 - 2011 season opened with a Sunday afternoon concert on October 3 at 3 p.m. with the Nova Scotia Youth Choir with guest conductor Diane Loomer (conductor of Chor Leoni Male Choir and Elektra Women’s Choir). The NSYC, a project of the Nova Scotia Choral Federation, has some 35 talented young people aged 16 to 25 from across Nova Scotia. In its 2006 concert for DCCA, it was impressive! This year is the celebration of NSYC’s twentieth year, and promises to match its talented predecessors. A choral event!

It is many years since DCCA has presented a percussionist and in Anne-Julie Caron, we have a marimbist of extraordinary talent. One noted composer ranked her as “one of his favourite marimbists in all the world”. Adding to the attraction of the concert is her collaborator, Marie-Eve Scarfone, pianist, who has performed widely internationally and earned splendid reviews. This duo promises to be a highlight.

The final concert of our 2010-11 season was a “Welcome home!” for Pamela MacDonald. A Dartmouthian by birth, a graduate of Prince Andrew H.S. and Dalhousie Music program, she has gone on to a remarkable career. Pamela has proven herself as a sensitive, intelligent interpreter of many genres, and has a wide repertoire including oratorio, opera, art songs, and Broadway shows. Also an actress and teacher, she possesses an exceptional singing voice. She now resides in Toronto where, amongst her many activities, she is completing her DMA at the University of Toronto.

This quintet features the following talented musicians: Daniele Bourget (flute), Martin Carpentier (clarinet), Mélanie Harel (oboe), Mathieu Lussier (bassoon), Louis-Philippe Marsolais (horn). They form a “unique musical ensemble in the Canadian landscape”. Under the direction of Louis-Philippe Marsolais (one of the artists in our March 6, 2010 concert), the five are recognized for their talent, technique, precision, and colour. Each brings an impressive talent to the mix; together they present a musical treat.
