Andrew Son is 17 years old and is a student at the Halifax Grammar School. He is currently studying the piano with Betty Ro and the violin with Philippe Djokic. He has completed the certificate program requirements from the RCM for ARCT Piano and ARCT Violin.  Andrew was the runner-up for the Dr. Piano Yamaha Piano Rose Bowl in 2012 and 2013.  He was the runner up for the String Atlantic Rose Bowl in 2015 and the winner in 2016. From 2014 to 2016, he received major scholarships from the Nova Scotia Talent Trust for both piano and violin.  In March, 2015, he was awarded the Debut Atlantic Award for Musical Excellence for piano. That summer he represented Nova Scotia in the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers' Association National Piano Competition in Vancouver.


In 2012 Andrew joined the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra and has been its concertmaster since 2013.  In February 2015, he was awarded the Lieutenant Governor's Respectful Citizenship Award for demonstrating leadership by enhancing the community with music. In April, 2016, he performed the Liszt Piano Concerto with Nova Sinfonia.  This year the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra announced that Andrew was the new NSYO Concerto Competition Winner. He will be performing with the orchestra in November 2016.
